That is the hard truth after another loss last night.
Colorado is not only dealing with the Cale Makar situation anymore. The Avalanche are also getting almost nothing from 2 forwards who were supposed to help carry this run when the series got tight.
Those 2 names are Brock Nelson and Martin Necas.
And right now, both are far too quiet.
Nelson scored 33 goals in 81 games during the regular season. In the playoffs, he has only 2 goals in 11 games.
That is a massive drop for a player brought in to give Colorado more finish deeper in the lineup.
Necas is sitting in the same ugly spotlight.
He scored 38 goals in 78 games in the regular season. In the playoffs, he has just 1 goal in 11 games.
That is not depth scoring drying up. That is major offense disappearing.

That is why this series is tilting fast.
When you are down 2-0, every quiet shift from key scorers starts to feel heavier. Vegas is getting enough offense and enough structure to stay in control. Colorado is still waiting for Nelson and Necas to look like themselves.
And Bednar cannot wait much longer.
Nathan MacKinnon can still drive the attack, and Colorado still has enough talent to make this series uncomfortable. But one star line cannot do all the lifting when 2 major regular-season scorers have almost gone missing.
That is where the pressure sits now.
Nelson was supposed to bring secondary punch and give the Avalanche another finisher in harder games. Necas was supposed to add speed, offense, and another layer of danger off the rush.
Instead, both are leaving Colorado with too little margin.
That matters even more with Makar not fully right. When your top defenseman is hurting, your forwards have to cover more of the damage.
Nelson and Necas have not done that.
This is why the next game feels so big for Colorado. If the Avalanche are going to climb back into this series, they need more than effort and more than close calls.
They need Brock Nelson and Martin Necas to stop looking like regular-season memories and start looking like the players who helped build this team's ceiling in the first place.
Because down 2-0, the excuses are gone.
