John Tortorella is in no mood for second-guessing, not with the Golden Knights one loss from the end of their season.
After Vegas dropped Game 5, reporter Jonny Lazarus asked Tortorella if he'd considered going to Adin Hill in the third period.
The answer was pure Torts. "Christ, that could be the stupidest question I've heard."
That's a coach swatting a question away like a bug at a barbecue. Combative, dismissive, and not remotely interested in explaining himself.
It also tells you everything about where this team sits. Carolina leads the series 3-2, and Vegas is staring down elimination.
Lazarus shared the exchange, and the snap says as much about the moment as the words do.

The Adin Hill question that set Tortorella off
Here's the thing. The question wasn't actually crazy. Vegas has rolled a goalie committee all spring, and asking about a change mid-game is fair.
Adin Hill carries a $6.25 million cap hit and posted a .870 this season. Carter Hart sat at .918 in his work, with Akira Schmid at .893 in the mix. The crease has been a moving target.
So wondering aloud about a switch is reasonable. Tortorella just had zero patience for it after a loss, which is its own kind of answer.

That's vintage Tortorella, though. He protects his room, deflects the heat onto himself, and dares the media to push back. He's done it for decades.
The prickliness also reads like a coach feeling the squeeze. Vegas just learned William Karlsson likely won't return in the Final, so the margin was already paper thin before Game 5 slipped away.
Here's my read: the snap is theater we've seen a hundred times, but the stakes underneath are very real. A team down 3-2 and missing a center is a team out of room for error.
Game 6 goes in Vegas, where the Golden Knights either save their season or watch Carolina celebrate on their ice.
That's the spot Tortorella is in. No wonder he's swinging at questions. The next loss ends everything.
Can Vegas respond at home, shorthanded and on the brink? Torts's mood tells you he knows exactly what's coming.
Will Vegas force a Game 7, or does Carolina close it out in Game 6?
