Yegor Yadykin won't skate for Sergei Golubovich in Norilsk again after the 21-year-old forward died in a tragedy reported on June 11.

The news hit hard across Russian hockey because Yadykin was still at the start of his pro path.

He was born on February 4, 2005, and had just finished his first season with HC Norilsk.

Reports out of Russia said Yadykin died after an accidental discharge from a hunting rifle while preparing for a hunting trip with his grandfather in Salavat, Bashkortostan.

That detail turned a hockey story into something much heavier in a hurry.

Another reported layer made the story even sadder. Russian reports said his 67-year-old grandfather, who witnessed the accident, later died hours afterward.

HC Norilsk's player page lists him as a left-shot forward wearing No. 58. In 46 VHL games this season, he posted 2 goals and 2 assists.

That stat line only tells part of it.

Yadykin had already worked his way through the Avangard system, played for Omskie Krylya, and arrived in Norilsk as a young forward still trying to carve out his place in the lineup.

A young career stopped far too soon: Yegor Yadykin

Norilsk's tribute described Yadykin as a selfless competitor and a reliable teammate who brought energy on and off the ice. Those are the words that tend to stay with a locker room after a loss like this.

There isn't a hockey angle big enough to overpower that reality.

A family lost two people in one day, and a club lost a young forward who was still building his future.

Yadykin's full VHL totals closed at 64 games and 7 points. Numbers like that usually read like the start of a longer climb, not the end of a story.

For Norilsk, this won't be about line combinations, special teams, or next season's depth chart for a while.

It will be about grief, memory, and a room trying to process news nobody saw coming.

Yegor Yadykin died at 21, and the shock of that won't leave this corner of hockey anytime soon. May he and his grandfather rest in peace.
