TJ Oshie comes forward about cybersecurity attack on fans
Amidst an apparent spree of cyber attacks on major figures in the NHL, veteran Washington Capitals forward TJ Oshie stepped forward about what had transpired.
With the Stanley Cup underway, it is no surprise the NHL has been on the front of sports fans' minds. Given the massive competition between the lucky 16 teams, this year's playoffs are the most-watched three rounds in the United States since 1996.
However, this much spotlight can often prove disadvantageous in other areas, particularly susceptibility to compromise. Provided the increased popularity of the NHL, many related avenues became the target of cyber attacks from hackers promoting cryptocurrency. The first and most prominent of these happened to the colossal Canadian sports news station Sportsnet.
However, veteran Washington Capitals forward TJ Oshie found himself the subject of a similar attack, likely coming from the same entity. One fan who fell victim to the fake cryptocurrency put the player on blast for scamming followers, unaware of the full story.

This fan, and any other who fell for the apparent scam, finally got an answer from the Capitals forward. Oshie posted on X earlier today what many thought was obvious: he was hacked.

There seems to be little doubt that Oshie was telling the truth and hopefully has taken extra measures to secure his account. Yet, with as many more NHLers active on social media, cybersecurity will remain questionable as the Stanley Cup Finals push on.
