Dhaliwal tweeted out today about the Canucks being interested in him.
After the Canucks lost Elias Lindholm in free agency to the Boston Bruins, they signed Jake DeBrusk and Danton Heinen to help replace some offense. Adding Sprong on top of that could realistically replace all of Lindholm's goal total for the Canucks.
Last season, in 76 games with the Detroit Red Wings, he had 18 goals and 25 assists for 43 points.
In 26 games with the Canucks, Lindholm had six goals and six assists for 12 points.
If Sprong can play as well as he has in the last two seasons for Vancouver, then he may be able to join their top six quickly.
The only challenge that comes with Sprong's game is his lack of defense ability. He tends to be solely an offensive player who knows his strengths. With that said, he can still be very useful on the PP, with the extra attacker or late in games when his team is down by a goal. He can be relied on to score goals.
As of right now, the Canucks are $1.3 million above the cap ceiling, which means they would need to become cap-compliant before the regular season starts. Due to that, if they do work out a deal with Sprong, it likely wouldn't be more than $1-1.5 million for the season.
