Earlier this month, the Dallas Mavericks shocked the entire NBA fanbase by trading franchise superstar Luca Doncic to the LA Lakers for Anthony Davis.
The full deal saw Doncic and Maxi Kleber go to LA in exchange for Davis, Max Christie, and a 2029 first-round draft pick.
The deal has Mavericks fans collectively losing their minds and questioning what their favorite team is doing.
In fact, outrage among fans has been so universal that the Mavericks have already faced legitimate financial consequences from the move.
Fans were so upset with the trade, that the team has since offered refunds to season ticket holders for the remaining home games on their schedule.
Now it is being reported that Mavericks general manager Nico Harrison has actually hired a full-time security staff to guard his home, presumably because some fans have been sending him threats.
Obviously, it is not okay to send anyone threats over the internet be they legitimate or otherwise.
No matter how much we might disagree with a move our favorite teams make, as fans we have to hold ourselves to a higher standard than that.
At the end of the day, the NBA is a business, just like every other professional sports league in the world.
Sometimes that means moves get made that we don't agree with and sometimes these moves don't seem to make any sense to anyone.
So why did Harrison feel the need to trade Doncic? Apparently, he was concerned about the superstars training regimen, which does feel like a pretty lame excuse.
Hopefully, Harrison and his family will not face any real threats in the coming weeks as the Mavericks hope to make the NBA playoffs.
