Former NHL goaltender and Hockey Night in Canada host Kelly Hrudey opened up about his mental health struggles tonight.

Kelly Hrudey was a goaltender in the NHL for well over a decade, spending 15 seasons split between the LA Kings, New York Islanders, and San Jose Sharks.

He appeared in nearly 700 career games, putting together a record of 271-265-88, a goals-against-average of 3.43, and a save percentage of .893.

Those numbers might not sound that great, but keeping in mind the fact that he spent his career playing in the 80s and 90s, and suddenly they start to look pretty good.

In fact, According to Hockey Reference, Hrudey saved over 100 goals above average over his career, or 13 per season on average.

Hrudey also is 3rd all-time among Kings goaltenders with 145 wins and still hold the record for most saves in a single season with 1,991, which he achieved in the 1993-94 season.

Hrudey is more than a celebrity or former professional athlete though.

Like many of us, he too struggles with things many wouldn't think a celebrity could deal with.

Hrudey has been open with the public about his struggles with his mental health for a long time now.

In fact, he authored a book about his life in 2017 that detailed his struggles with mental health.

Tonight, he revealed on X that he was struggling ahead of his pre-game show on Hockey Night in Canada.

He said that he felt extremely anxious and nearly had a panic attack, but he got through it and managed to complete the segment professionally.

Hrudey is a testament to willpower and perseverance and is a bold leader in the mental health space within the hockey community.

His contributions on and off the ice will always be appreciated.
