Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby is reportedly hoping to play for Team Canada at the Four Nations tournament despite an injury.

Earlier this month, Sidney Crosby suffered a scary injury after being hit by a Devils defenseman.

Initially, the injury seemed rather bad as he went straight to the locker room where he spent much of the 3rd period of that game.

He did eventually return to the ice, giving fans hope that the Penguins Captain had dodged a bullet, but since then things have gotten worse.

Crosby was out of the lineup in each of the team's last two games against the New York Rangers and Philadelphia Flyers.

He remains out of the lineup with an upper-body injury, but luckily the team does not have another game until February 22nd.

That being said, Crosby was expected to wear the "C" for Team Canada at the Four Nations tournament that will take place during that break in the NHL schedule.

Now, that is in question, although he reportedly remains adamant about representing his country.

NHL reporter Emily Kaplan revealed in a story today that Crosby is traveling to Montreal for the tournament and is 'desperate' to play for Canada.

"Sidney Crosby is traveling to Montreal and hopes to play for Canada in the 4 Nations Face-Off, sources confirmed to ESPN on Sunday.

Crosby, the Team Canada captain who missed Pittsburgh's last two games before the break with a left arm injury, is desperate to play in the tournament, sources told ESPN."

That being said, if Crosby is unable to go, we do know who will be replacing him.

Winnipeg Jets alternate captain Mark Scheifele has reportedly been put on 'high alert' by Team Canada as he will be needed for the team in the event that Crosby cannot play.

Hopefully it does not come to that, but we will just have to wait and see. Team Canada's first match of the event is on Wednesday at 8PM EST against Sweden.
