Jordan Kyrou and Peter DeBoer are suddenly back in the same Islanders summer story for a very real reason.
Trade conversations between the Islanders and Blues have picked back up, and the most important detail is not small: it is believed Kyrou would waive his full no-trade clause for Long Island.
That changes the whole tone of this file. A lot of star names get tossed around in June, but once a player is willing to open the door, the rumor stops feeling cheap.
It also lines up with where the Islanders are. Mathieu Darche is not running this like a rebuild, and the thin free-agent market makes a hockey trade the cleaner path to real offense.
Kyrou fits that need fast. He is still only 28, and he just finished 2025-26 with 18 goals and 46 points in 72 games for St. Louis.
The contract is what makes this such a serious swing. Kyrou has 5 seasons left at an $8,125,000 cap hit, so this is not a short-term rental move for the Islanders.
That also means St. Louis is not doing anyone a favor here. If Doug Armstrong moves a player with that term, he is going to want a real return back.
Another team to watch for is the Canucks. They have been linked many times to Kyrou...

A major NHL contender may be at the center of a blockbuster trade leak
Because the Islanders do not need another safe middle move. They need speed, skill, and a forward who can push the attack higher in the lineup.
Kyrou gives them that instantly. He is a right-shot winger with proven offensive touch, and that kind of player is not easy to find once July opens.
The no-trade angle matters just as much. PuckPedia shows Kyrou's contract carries no-trade protection, so the fact Long Island is viewed as a place he would accept says plenty by itself.
It also tells you this may be more advanced than fans think. Teams do not usually get this kind of clarity unless there has already been some real groundwork done behind the scenes.
There will be pressure on the Islanders side, too. Taking on that cap hit for 5 more years is a major bet, and New York cannot afford to miss on a move this big.
But if Darche wants to change the look of this forward group in one shot, this is the type of player worth chasing. Jordan Kyrou is young enough to matter for years, skilled enough to lift the top six, and suddenly open enough to make the whole idea believable.
That is why this one should not be brushed aside. The Islanders are back in on Jordan Kyrou, and for the first time in a while, it sounds like the player may be open to meeting them there.
Should the Islanders go all in to land Jordan Kyrou?
