Patrik Laine Loses His Cool On the Ice as He Continues to Struggle With the Montreal Canadiens
Montreal Canadiens forward Patrik Laine has been growing increasingly frustrated in recent weeks and it shows with his behavior on the ice.
Patrik Laine has always been a player that is known for wearing his heart on his sleeve.
He is not afraid to tell you what he is thinking or how he is feeling.
For example, earlier this season he got criticism for comments he made directed at Columbus Blue Jackets fans after his first game back in the city as a visiting player.
It seems as though Laine tends to get a bit more outspoken and passionate when his results on the ice are not going his way.
That it the case with Laine right now, who has been seen expressing his frustrations in recent games.
Just this morning, he was seen being visibly frustrated as he returned to the bench after a rough shift against the Tampa Bay Lightning.
There is little doubt in the mind of Habs fans that Laine's recent cold streak is playing into this dynamic.
He began the season red-hot coming off an injury and immediately having a huge impact on the team.
Through his first 20 games in Montreal he had 18 points including 12 goals.
Since then he has zero points in 7 games and is a -7 in that stretch.
Laine has also recently butted heads with head coach Martin St. Louis, who has not been afraid to bench him at times.
In fact, his ice time has plummeted during this cold stretch, with him getting roughly 12 minutes of ice time per game over his last five contests.
He is averaging nearly 15 minutes per game on the season, including those last five games, which have brought that average down.
At this point, it seems like his relationship with the team may be falling apart.
Could the Canadiens consider trading him this summer?
