Jake DeBrusk is drawing trade speculation this offseason, with Ottawa and Edmonton emerging as teams that could make sense for the Vancouver Canucks winger.

The report, from Frank Seravalli via Canucks Central on Wednesday, frames the situation plainly: which team can't use a 25-goal scorer on their wing making south of $6 million?

It's a fair question. DeBrusk's $5.5 million cap hit is the kind of number that works almost anywhere.

He posted 23 goals and 42 points in 81 games this season. Not a star number.

But consistent, and his last 10 games showed a real spike with 7 goals, including 6 on the power play.

Vancouver finished 25-49-8, dead last in the NHL at 32nd overall. The Canucks gave up 316 goals against this season. This roster needs a full teardown, not a refresh.

Why DeBrusk's power play production makes him worth more than his point total suggests

The case for Ottawa is the stronger one. The Senators finished 44-27-11 with 99 points.

GM Steve Staios is building something real, and a wing who can score on the power play fits exactly what Travis Green's team needs.

DeBrusk scored 19 of his 23 goals on the power play this season. That is not a bottom-six player. That is a specialist with genuine value on any team that runs a strong man advantage.

Edmonton finished with 93 points, and Stan Bowman's front office has never been shy about adding veterans.

DeBrusk fits that profile: a north-south winger who drives to the net and produces on the man advantage.

The Canucks went 0-2 against Ottawa this season, dropping a 1-2 decision in Ottawa in January and falling 0-2 at home in March.

Ottawa has seen this player up close. That intel matters when a GM picks up the phone.

At 29, DeBrusk is entering the back half of his prime. A rebuilding Vancouver team has every reason to move him now, while the value is there and the interest is real.

The offseason market for wings who can score on the power play for under $6 million gets thin fast. DeBrusk checks that box, and both the Senators and Oilers already know it.
