James van Riemsdyk is back in Toronto chatter, and Jim Hiller now sits over a summer rumor the Maple Leafs didn't exactly cool down.

What came with it only added fuel. The video featured van Riemsdyk scoring against the Philadelphia Flyers, another stop in a long NHL run that still carries weight in Toronto.

There's also the experience angle. Van Riemsdyk has played 1154 NHL games and more than 80 playoff games, which gives him real value in a room trying to stay steady when the pressure spikes.

That's why this rumor won't go away quickly. Toronto doesn't need a headline move on every line, and a veteran who knows the market can still fill a job.
The real question is whether the Leafs see him as more than insurance. If Hiller wants another trusted option for the middle six and second power-play unit, this fit starts to make sense.
