Patrick Kane's two-year deal with the Chicago Blackhawks is done, and now the fine print is out.
It is not just an $8 million cap hit. The structure tells its own story.
Year one pays Kane a $1 million salary plus an $8 million signing bonus. That is $9 million in real cash before Christmas.
Year two flips the ratio. Kane collects a $1 million salary and a $6 million bonus, for $7 million total.
Both years carry a full no-move clause. At 37, with a new address, that protection matters.
Kane is repped by Pat Brisson at CAA Hockey, the same camp that has handled his contracts for years now.
The Blackhawks needed a name. Bedard needed a mentor. Kane needed a soft landing after Detroit did not bring him back.

Front-loading a deal like this is not new around the league. But doing it for a 37 year old winger on a rebuilding team is a specific bet.
Chicago finished 29-39-14 last season, 72 points, ranked 31st overall with a minus-62 goal differential. This is not a contender signing a rental.
It is a lottery team paying a future Hall of Famer to score and to teach.
Connor Bedard put up 30 goals and 45 assists for 75 points at just 21 years old last season, even with a minus-18 rating on a bad team. Kane's fingerprints on that development curve are the real bet here.
Kane turns 39 before this contract expires in 2028, and he is signed through a no-move clause that removes any leverage the front office might want later.
Jeff Blashill is the head coach tasked with making a 37 year old scoring winger fit next to a core still learning how to win. Kyle Davidson is the GM who signed off on the money.
Two years, two very different cash numbers, and a no-move clause that locks Chicago in either way. Whether the fit works on the ice is the part nobody can put a dollar figure on yet.
