Jonathan Lemieux just found a new home in the Detroit Red Wings organization, and it's the kind of quiet move that still matters for the pipeline.
Lemieux spent last season in the ECHL with the Kalamazoo Wings, right in Detroit's own backyard in West Michigan.
The Grand Rapids Griffins, Detroit's AHL affiliate, signed him to a one-year, two-way contract for the 2026-27 season.

Detroit also signed Daniil Tarasov, formerly of Florida, to a one-year deal to back up John Gibson.
Gibson posted a .902 save percentage across 57 games last season, still the clear number one in Detroit's crease heading into camp.
Tarasov finished at .895 in 33 games with his previous club, a reasonable veteran option behind Gibson while Cam Talbot isn't expected back.
Adding Lemieux at the AHL level rounds out a full goaltending refresh from the NHL roster all the way down to the depth chart in Grand Rapids.
None of this is a headline move on its own. But collectively, it shows a front office that's been deliberate about every level of its goaltending pipeline this summer.
For a franchise still working through a retool, having real competition and depth in net at every tier matters more than one single splashy signing ever could.
Lemieux's path to Detroit runs through a level most fans never watch closely, but it's exactly the kind of depth piece that occasionally turns into a real story down the line.
