Jakub Dobeš has a major believer in Carey Price, giving Martin St-Louis another reason to feel good about the Canadiens' crease.
Price spoke about Montreal's young goaltenders this summer, and his comments on Dobeš immediately stood out. The former Canadiens star clearly likes the personality the 25-year-old brings between the pipes.
"He's got that little 'grrr' in his game, he's got swag," Price said of the 25-year-old goalie.
That description says plenty. Price sees a goaltender who isn't afraid of pressure, embraces big moments and brings an edge every time he takes the crease.

Those traits matter in Montreal. Playing goal for the Canadiens means dealing with attention after every start, every goal allowed and every decision around the blue paint.
Price understands that reality better than most after spending years as the face of the franchise and carrying enormous expectations in one of hockey's loudest markets.

What makes Price's comments more interesting is how differently he described Jacob Fowler. Dobeš brings swagger and visible emotion, while Fowler's approach reminds Price much more of his own style.
"He's a lot more like me.
More reserved.
He plays a very quiet game, like I used to," Price confided.
That is a strong endorsement for Fowler as well. Price built his reputation around controlled movements, positioning and a calm presence that rarely changed regardless of what was happening around his crease.
Montreal now has contrasting personalities among its young goaltenders. Dobeš brings fire and confidence, while Fowler projects a quieter presence with the type of composed approach Price immediately recognized.
Dobeš also carries the stronger NHL résumé entering the discussion. He appeared in 43 games in 2025-26, posting 29 wins and a .901 save percentage, while Fowler played 17 games and recorded a .908 save percentage.
That competition gives St-Louis options. Samuel Montembeault remains part of the picture, but Price's comments put extra attention on two younger goaltenders trying to establish themselves as long-term answers.
And when Carey Price sees pieces of both swagger and calm inside Montreal's crease, Canadiens fans have every reason to watch that battle closely when training camp opens.
