With around 8:06 left in the third period, TJ Oshie cut into the Tampa Bay zone turned to dump the puck in a keeled over in pain. It did not look like he could get back up and he had to be helped off the ice by teammates.
Thankfully, he was able to walked down the tunnel but he remained hunched over. This had the makings of some sort of core muscle injury, but it could have also been a rib injury or another issue with his back. I hesitate to speculate but with no one hitting him, or ice being an issue, it looks to be something along those lines.
The Washington Capitals would go on to win the game by a score of 5-3. The official Washington Capitals account would send out a special message for Oshie.
TJ Oshie would respond in a reply to the team account.
Oshie has already missed time for two weeks from November to December and from the end of December to the middle of January. The last time he played over 70 games in a season was 2017-18, and he has never played a full 82-game season in his career.
He says he will be back though, and considering he has said in the past about how he wants to play out his contract even if he has to deal with a lot of injuries.
There is also one other key point to think of: Oshie likely wants to play at least 1000 NHL games, and only five games away that should be achievable (depending on the severity of this injury too). He is also just 14 points away from 700 in his career, and that is probably a milestone he would like to hit as well.
We wish TJ Oshie a speedy recovery.
