The former NHLer PK Subban made some harsh comments on the New York Rangers, in a video recently posted on X.
According to him, even if the Rangers could win the President's trophy, they aren't the best team in the League.
PK Subban believes the Colorado Avalanche would beat the New York Rangers in a playoff round
Even if the New York Rangers beat the Colorado Avalanche on Thursday night in shootouts, and Igor Shesterkin managed to end Nathan MacKinnon's 19-game point streak, Subban believes they couldn't win a playoff serie against them.
Read his full intervention here:
"The New York Rangers may win the President's Trophy, but they are not the best team in the National Hockey League. Yes, I know they beat the Colorado Avalanche last night, but they are not beating Colorado in a seven-game series. Colorado's big dogs are bigger right now than the New York Rangers.
I don't see Artemi Panarin outplaying Nathan MacKinnon. Nathan MacKinnon's been that good. MVP candidate. Good luck finding a defenseman on one night to contain this guy, let alone seven games. Ain't gonna happen. Cale Makar, probably the most decorated defenseman in the game right now. Conn Smythe, Norris Trophy. Stanley Cup champion.
Adam Fox isn't outplaying him in a seven-game series. Mikko Rantanen versus Trocheck, same thing, and the list goes on and on. Then second, Colorado's depth is too much for the Rangers and maybe too much for anybody else. Casey Mittelstadt, Nichushkin. Trenin, Wood. Ross Colton, Jonathan Drouin, who wanted to play with Nathan MacKinnon, you know, to recoup some of that chemistry that they had in junior.
Then on the back end, you got one of the best D corps in the league. Cale Makar, Josh Manson, who's a mean walker, who they picked up. Toews, Girard. My final point, it's a game of inches. Colorado Avalanche lead the league in most comeback wins this year with 25. The second-place team is the New York Rangers with 24 comeback wins.
One thing you're guaranteed is to be entertained. I was entertained last night, but right now, Colorado's got the edge, and I don't see the Rangers beating them in a potential Stanley Cup matchup. Without Shesterkin, the result could have been different last night. The only way I see the Rangers beating them in a seven-game series is if Shesterkin can steal it.
And he stole a game last night. For all those Rangers fans, you're among the best teams in the league. Don't get too festive with this President's Trophy." As we saw in the past, teams who win the President's trophy don't often have success in the playoffs. We'll see if the Rangers can reverse that curse.
More to come.
