After a career that's taken him from Pittsburgh to Vegas, Chicago and now to Minnesota, it appears that the end is near for Marc-Andre Fleury, widely regarded as one of the top goaltenders of a generation. The 39-year old has spent the last three seasons of his career in Minnesota, and now, he's revealed his future in the NHL in a recent interview.
Unsurprisingly, Fleury being the family man that he is, has cited his family as a major reason why he doesn't want to depart Minnesota, but given his solid play on the ice, it wouldn't shock anyone if he strapped the pads on for another season with the Wild.
In 1,021 career games, the Quebec native has put together an impressive 560-327-96 record with a career .912 save percentage and a 2.59 save percentage, putting him up there amongst the greats of this generation and any before that. It was his time in Pittsburgh that saw him tally three Stanley Cup's, before winning a Vezina Trophy in 2020-21 with the Vegas Golden Knights, and whether he goes for one more year or not, his career is all but over.
It's not just off the ice that is influencing Fleury to stay in Minnesota, as they have a solid team around him, and after moving into second all-time in career wins for goaltenders, it's clear that he's got plenty left in the tank. We now wait to see what his next career move is, but one thing has now been confirmed, it's the Minnesota Wild or retirement for one of the games brightest veteran stars.
