The Buffalo Sabres are off to a very interesting start to the 2024/25 NHL season, and after years of struggling to turn this rebuild around, many believe they may finally have the team in place to end their lengthy Stanley Cup Playoffs drought. Unfortunately, given all of the failures in recent years, it appears one person in the organization may be on the hot seat, with a potential General Manager change on the way in the coming weeks and months.
According to a Sabres reporter, GM Kevyn Adams is firmly on the hot seat, and while they aren't in a rush to make the change, if the team continues to struggle, the front office reportedly has an unnamed person in mind to take over the role moving forward. This past off-season, the team fired Head Coach Don Granato, replacing him with Lindy Ruff, but even with that change, they are 1-3-0 through the first four games of the season this year, so it makes sense that someone may ultimately be held accountable.
Dating back to 2008, the Sabres have made just two Stanley Cup Playoffs appearances, losing in the first round of both, with no appearance since the 2011 season, but with the likes of Tage Thompson, Rasmus Dahlin, Alex Tuch and Ukko-Pekka Luukonen leading the way, many believed this would be the season that things turn around. There's still confidence that may happen, but if things don't turn around in a hurry, it appears Adams may be on the way out, although the report clearly states that he may find a role higher in the organization, despite leading them to such failures in years past.
It's a tricky situation for many in Buffalo, with the team needing to get things going early in the year, but if they don't expect plenty of change.
