Ryan Reaves Tears Off Piece of the Boards: Gary Bettman's Digital Ads Cause Technical Disaster
The NHL has come under fire for their digital ad boards since their introduction, and now Gary Bettman has another issue on his hands with it involving Ryan Reaves, who took some of an ad board with him during the Maple Leafs latest matchup with the Capitals.
Over the years as Commissioner of the NHL, Gary Bettman has made some huge decisions, some bad and some great, but one that has been consistently criticized by fans has been their introduction of digital ad boards.
Not only do these boards take away from the production and viewing pleasure of the fans at home, but now, apparently they also interrupt NHL games as well.
During the Wednesday night meeting between the Washington Capitals and Toronto Maple Leafs, enforcer Ryan Reaves crashed into the boards in a collision, but as he skated away, part of the Lexus advertisement came with him.
The hilarious scene was absolutely shocking to fans in attendance and the commentators, and while Reaves didn't notice it immediately, everyone else certainly did.
It's highly unlikely that this will have any effect on what Bettman believes is a great innovation and change for the NHL, and while it was absolutely hilarious, it's definitely not a good look for Bettman.
Fans on social media were finding it quite hilarious as well, with many pointing out that this was something that they'd never seen before, and while it can't all be blamed on Bettman, this is certainly something that never happened before the introduction of digital ad boards.
It's unclear what happened when Reaves hit the board to force something like this loose, but it may now need to be looked at in every arena around the league, because while it was a moment that is going viral on social media, it's a bad look for the sponsors.
