GMs were reminded to keep interviews with prospects at the Draft Combine respectable and professional at their recent annual meeting.
This is after reports that at least one team crossed a line by being too aggressive or intense in questioning prospects.
One famous moment occurred at the 2023 NHL combine with David Reinbacher, now with the Montreal Canadiens, who was asked a question that crossed the line by one of the NHL GMs who remain unnamed. It was regarding war, and it involved some pretty grap[phic content.
One of the hottest topics debated was a recent NCAA rule change that will affect the eligibility of Canadian Hockey League players.
Dan Marr, head of Central Scouting, gave a little background on the issue, while league executives talked about potential impacts on the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
GMs were also informed of the date for the league's first-ever "decentralized" Draft, which certainly will be staged out of Los Angeles.
For the first time, teams will make selections from their own war rooms across the North American continent and not from a central venue.
Other topics touched upon included reminding GMs that they should not be engaging in tampering, coach's challenges, and video reviews, where Campbell asked GMs how far they wanted to go in the name of accuracy: "How perfect do we make the game?" he asked while leaving the onus on the GMs to decide.
