John Gibson Reportedly Willing to Waive No-Trade Clause for One Specific Team
John Gibson has been in trade rumours for years, and now it appears the veteran is ready to waive his no-trade clause for the Edmonton Oilers.
Despite the season being just a quarter of the way done, trade speculation is beginning to heat up, especially for teams like the Edmonton Oilers with the lofty expectations of a Stanley Cup.
While there's been plenty of talk about upgrading their defense and finding more speed in their top-nine, goaltending has become a pressing priority, with Stuart Skinner and Calvin Pickard combining for an .882 save percentage on the year.
Now, we may know exactly where that help is coming from, as TSN's Pierre LeBrun has recently noted that Anaheim Ducks star John Gibson would waive his no-trade clause to join the Canadian team.
Recently, Gibson was linked to both the Carolina Hurricanes and Colorado Avalanche, and while we've not heard anything on his mindset regarding his no-trade clause with them, the latest news for the Oilers is fantastic.
However, the team at Oilers Daily certainly aren't ignoring the salary cap implications of a trade for Gibson, as it would require plenty of help and/or moving parts to make the deal work.
Gibson has played just three games for the Ducks this season, but with a proven track record and a .906 save percentage in that time, it's safe to say that he'd be an upgrade over Stuart Skinner.
For now though, there's little indication that the Oilers want to make this move, but if they are interested, expect Stan Bowman to push hard as they look to go one step further than they did a season ago.
