Canadian Team Unexpectedly Places 6-Foot-3 Enforcer on the NHL Waiver Wire

In a surprising turn of events today, the Ottawa Senators have placed tough-guy Zack MacEwen on the NHL waiver wire.
Zack MacEwen, while not an elite player by any means, is one of the toughest players on Canadian NHL teams. He has fought players such as Arber Xhekaj, and more.
However, this considered, the Ottawa Senators have opted to place him on waivers today. They released the following statement following the decision:
The Ottawa Senators made a pair of roster moves on Sunday.
The club recalled forward Zack Ostapchuk from Belleville, while placing forward Zack MacEwen on waivers.
Ostapchuk has appeared in six games with the Senators this season, tallying one assist. In nine games with Belleville, Ostapchuk has registered one goal and seven assists.
MacEwen played in 19 games with Ottawa this season, scoring two goals and adding one assist.
Ottawa's next game takes place on Monday when the team hosts the Calgary Flames to conclude a four-game homestand at Canadian Tire Centre. Teams looking for toughness, such as the Montreal Canadiens and Edmonton Oilers could take a good look at the 6-foot-3, 205 pound winger.
Senators fan pages made sure to comment, showing a mix of displeasure, but excitement if he makes it through waivers to help their AHL team:
Senators place Zack MacEwen on waivers
Better to play than sit. Mac looked dialed the first few games but became less and less noticeable.
Personally I would have scratched Cousins for a game first because unlike ZM17 being unnoticeable, Cousins undisciplined penalties are actively hurting the team.
This is also great for Belleville (assuming Mac clears). MacEwen is an elite AHL talent
- Locked on Senators
We will see if MacEwen clears waivers tomorrow at 5PM.
