The Detroit Red Wings are in prime position to return to the Stanley Cup Playoffs this year, but now they'll have to finish their chase without veteran Andrew Copp, who has now undergone successful surgery and will miss the remainder of a very promising campaign in Detroit.

After a horror start to the 2024/25 season, the Detroit Red Wings have turned things around well in recent months under Todd McLellan, as they currently sit in top spot in the Wild Card race in the Eastern Conference.

Unfortunately, they've now been dealt a major blow, as the team have announced on social media that veteran forward Andrew Copp will miss the remainder of the season after undergoing surgery.

Andrew Copp underwent successful surgery today to repair his left pectoral tendon. He will miss the remainder of the 2024/25 season with an expected recovery time of 4-6 months.

In 56 games this year, the 30-year old forward has tallied 10 goals and 23 points while having a differential of +4, so while he wasn't a star player, he was the type of player that could greatly contribute in any phase of the game while providing veteran leadership for a team in need of it.

Now, they'll rely even heavier on the likes of Lucas Raymond, Dylan Larkin and Alex DeBrincat to lead them forward, but given their impressive turnaround under McLellan, there's no doubting that they'll be able to overcome the injury.

As for Copp, this is a tough break for a player that's been a very consistent contributor at the NHL level for quite some time, but with two years remaining on his deal in Detroit after 2024/25, he'll have time to get back on the ice and begin contributing again for this very talented team.
