Bruce Cassidy remains stuck, and Kris Knoblauch's Oilers are now at the center of Kelly McCrimmon's latest accusation.

The story moved again Thursday when McCrimmon went on TSN's OverDrive and said Edmonton was responsible for the latest coaching leak.

That pushed this beyond a simple waiting game. It's now a public fight over who let the news out and why Vegas had to answer for it in the middle of a playoff run.

McCrimmon didn't walk it back. He made it clear he believes the noise did not come from inside the Golden Knights' side.

«It's only news because Edmonton leaked it,» McCrimmon told Overdrive.

He kept going and defended the organization's stance while making it clear Cassidy's situation hasn't changed, even with interest building around the league.

«This isn't something that came out of our organization. We've been forced to respond to it, which we did prior to our series against the Avalanche, but I've talked to Bruce. I've talked to Bruce as recently as yesterday. I know how he feels. I know he wants to coach. He's a hell of a coach, and he's anxious to get going.

Vegas keeps control of the process

«Coaches, by definition, aren't real patient people, so I understand what he wants and why he wants it. And at the same time, I work for the Vegas Golden Knights, so my responsibilities are first and foremost to the organization, and that's as much as I'm going to say on it, in addition to what I said a week ago.»

That's the pressure point here. Cassidy wants back behind an NHL bench, and Vegas still controls whether those talks can even start.

Cassidy already said, «It's upsetting» that he has not been granted permission to interview for another head coaching job. That line landed because it stripped away any doubt about where he stands.

The Oilers and Kings are the two clubs tied directly to that interest, which turns this into more than a side story around the Stanley Cup Final.

«There was two teams that asked. It's public knowledge now. And I would like to talk to them,» said Cassidy.

«I want to go to work. I'm a hockey coach. As much as I love being around Biz at TNT, I want to get back to work. And I got to tell you, get me out of here.»

That's why this keeps gaining traction. The coach wants in, two teams are waiting, and Vegas still isn't opening the door.
