The former Montreal Canadiens star isn't making an NHL comeback.
He made that clear in Moncton when he explained that he has started playing hockey again in a garage league.
Just not in net.
Price said he's lining up at left wing now, a twist nobody saw coming from one of the best goaltenders this franchise has ever had.
That detail matters because it says a lot about where his body is at.
His knee still won't let him handle the demands that come with goalie gear, butterfly work, and repeated pushes across the crease.
But it also says something else.
He still wants the rink, the pace, the puck touches, and the feeling of being in a game.
For Canadiens fans, that's the part that lands.
Price also revealed that he did take a real shot at testing himself as a goalie again last year. After a few skates in full equipment, the pain came right back the next day.
That ended any serious thought of a return.
So instead of walking away from hockey completely, he adjusted.
He found a level and a position his body could still handle, and now he's back out there playing on the wing.
It's a strange image at first. Price, who played 712 NHL games and built a Hall of Fame-caliber résumé in Montreal, now chasing pucks as a forward in a garage league.
Then again, it fits.
He was never going to be someone who stopped loving the sport once the NHL chapter closed. Some players miss the spotlight.
Others just miss the game itself. This feels like the second category.
There's another piece here that could grab attention inside Montreal.
Price said he'd like to become a goaltending coach for the Canadiens one day, which puts a fresh spotlight on whether Kent Hughes and the organization see a future fit there.
That idea won't go away after this.
Because even in retirement, Price still sounds like someone who wants a place around the rink, around the room, and around the next generation of Canadiens goalies.
He can't return as Carey Price the starter.
But Carey Price the left wing, and maybe someday Carey Price behind the bench, is still very much part of hockey.
