That is what made this media session stand out.
Hart was asked again how he has changed since 2018 and what work he has done on himself. This time, his answer sounded more thoughtful than it did back in October.
He added that he has grown, met good people in the community, and credited the Vegas Golden Knights Foundation for helping him integrate into Las Vegas.
That answer mattered because it sounded more measured than before.
But the bigger story came right after it.
Vegas PR reportedly ended Hart's media session after only 6 minutes, even though the availability had been scheduled for 15. No follow-up questions were allowed.
That is the real tension now.
On the ice, Hart has turned into one of the biggest reasons the Golden Knights are 4 wins from a Stanley Cup. Through 3 playoff rounds, he owns a 12-4 record with a 2.22 goals-against average and a .924 save percentage.
That is not a hot week.
That is a real playoff run.
The turnaround is even sharper when you look at where this started. Early in his Vegas tenure, Hart had a 5-3-3 record, a 3.23 GAA, and an .874 save percentage before a lower-body injury on January 8 kept him out for close to 3 months.
Everything changed when Vegas fired Bruce Cassidy with 8 games left and replaced him with Tortorella, who immediately put Hart back in the starter's net. Hart then closed the regular season on a 6-game winning streak with a 1.67 GAA and a .930 save percentage.
Tortorella backed that up by calling Hart mentally strong and saying the goalie had been growing tremendously in Philadelphia before stepping out of the league and is now right back at it. Brett Howden also said Hart keeps bailing the team out when needed.
That is why this remains such a strange Vegas story.
The team clearly believes in him. The room clearly trusts him. The stats clearly support the bet.
But the short leash in front of microphones tells you Vegas still knows the questions are not disappearing.
Hart gave a calmer answer this time.
Vegas still did not want the conversation going much longer.
