Simon Nemec and Ryan Huska just became the center of Calgary's boldest blue-line move of the summer.

Elliotte Friedman's update changed this from a simple rumor into a real roster swing. The Flames are landing Nemec, and they are not doing it with a soft offer.

The full package matters here. Calgary is also getting Tsyplakov, which turns this into more than a one-player bet and gives the trade a little more punch up front.

The cost shows exactly how serious Craig Conroy was. Calgary is sending the Rangers' 2nd-round pick in 2026 and Etienne Morin the other way.

It goes deeper than that. The Flames are also moving Vegas' 1st-round pick in 2027 and Colorado's 1st-round pick in 2028, with both selections top-10 protected.

That is a heavy futures price, but it tells you what Calgary thinks of Nemec. Teams do not move that kind of draft capital for a player they see as a side piece.

The return for this young superstar is so massive that fans can't believe it

Nemec is still only 22, and that is the whole gamble. The Flames are not buying a finished product. They are buying the chance that a former 2nd overall pick still has a much bigger jump in him.

The 2025-26 line supports that belief. Nemec played 68 games and put up 26 points, which is enough production from the blue line to keep front offices believing there is more offense coming.

His career track matters too. He already has 155 NHL games on his résumé, so Calgary is not bringing in a mystery prospect who still needs years of guessing.

That is what makes the move feel aggressive in the right way. Huska gets a right-shot defenseman with real pedigree, real NHL mileage, and room to grow into a much bigger role.

From New Jersey's side, this says a lot as well. Sheldon Keefe's club did not just move a young defenseman. The Devils chose futures, flexibility, and a prospect in Morin over waiting on Nemec's next step.

For Calgary, the pressure starts now. When you move 2 first-round picks, a second, and a prospect, this cannot be sold as a harmless upside play.

Still, the logic is easy to see. Simon Nemec fits the age lane of what the Flames are trying to build, and if he hits the level Calgary clearly believes is there, this trade will look like the moment the blue line changed.
