Macklin Celebrini and Ryan Warsofsky had nothing to do with it, but the Sharks rookie's name just landed in a wild Ontario police case.

The story isn't about a game, a lineup call, or a summer contract wrinkle.

It's about a high-end Macklin Celebrini rookie card that turned into the center of a police investigation in Barrie.

According to police, a 16-year-old was charged with theft over $5,000 after an in-person meetup tied to a Facebook Marketplace sale.

The item in question was a clear cut Young Guns rookie card tied to the San Jose Sharks forward.

Police said the meetup happened on Monday, July 14, shortly before 6:30 p.m. in southeast Barrie.

They also said the address used for the meeting was not the suspect's real residence.

The sequence sounds straight out of a bad marketplace deal.

Investigators allege the teen photographed the card, waited for the seller to look away, then grabbed it and ran toward a wooded trail.

Officers later obtained surveillance video and tracked down a local suspect.

Police said the teen answered the door wearing the same clothes seen on that footage.

A rookie card story that got out of hand: Celebrini's young guns card

That's where this gets attention far beyond Barrie. Celebrini's card market already has real heat, and rare rookie versions are drawing serious money because of what he represents for the Sharks.

The card was recovered, according to police. The accused cannot be identified because of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, and the allegations have not been tested in court.

For Sharks fans, it's a reminder that Celebrini's value is moving well beyond the ice. When a prospect's hobby market gets this hot, even a card deal can bring real stakes.

Police also used the case to push a simple warning: meet in public, bring someone with you, and don't assume a profile or chat history means a deal is safe. That advice fits this file line for line.

Celebrini's name made the headline, but this wasn't about anything he did. It was about demand, resale heat, and how fast a hockey collectible can turn into a police matter.
