Connor McDavid remains the pressure point as Mike Babcock prepares to coach an Edmonton roster Stan Bowman may not be finished reshaping.
The Oilers have already made major changes this offseason, yet the latest indication is that Bowman still has another forward addition on his radar before training camp.
That would continue an aggressive summer in Edmonton. The Oilers moved Darnell Nurse to the San Jose Sharks, opening a new chapter on a blue line that had become expensive and closely watched.
Bowman also rebuilt the crease by bringing in Frederik Andersen and Devon Levi. Edmonton isn't simply tweaking a roster that fell short. The front office has attacked several areas at once.
Mathieu Joseph was another addition up front, giving Babcock another option as he begins sorting out his top six, bottom six and special-teams combinations.
Edmonton finished last season 41-30-11 with 93 points. That record left the Oilers second in the Pacific Division, but the scale of the summer changes shows management wasn't satisfied.

Everything still comes back to McDavid. His future gives every Edmonton decision more weight, and another meaningful forward addition would send a clear message that Bowman isn't done pushing the roster forward.
The interesting part now is the type of player Edmonton targets. Another scoring winger would give Babcock more flexibility alongside his offensive leaders and create stronger competition throughout the lineup.
A deal could also change the roles already available to younger players. Training camp becomes much tighter when management brings in another established NHL forward before puck drop.
Bowman has already shown he is willing to make significant changes rather than simply run back the same group. Moving Nurse and replacing the goaltending tandem made that clear.
That makes the latest forward chatter harder to dismiss. Edmonton's offseason has already moved beyond minor adjustments, and one more addition could have an immediate impact on Babcock's opening-night lineup.
There is no confirmed target yet. Speculation has included different types of forwards, but Edmonton's biggest question isn't the name. It's how far Bowman is willing to go to strengthen the group around McDavid.
The Oilers have already changed their blue line, crease and forward depth. If Bowman lands another proven attacker, Edmonton could arrive at camp with one more surprise still shaping the roster.
