Outspoken player agent Allan Walsh called out Gary Bettman and the NHL for their continued denial of the effect that fighting has on the long-term health of players. These comments come after the tragic passing of a former NHLer.

NHL Journeyman Chris Simon Passes Away At Age 52

Reports came out earlier today that former NHL forward Chris Simon sadly passed away at the age of 52. Simon played in 782 career NHL games split between seven franchises and eight teams, including the now defunct Quebec Nordiques. His passing lead to many heartfelt messages from around the hockey world.

Each of Simon's former teams made a post honoring his memory once news of his passing became official. Among them were the New York Islanders, where Simon spent two years of his career.

The New York Islanders offer their condolences to the family and friends of former Islanders forward, Chris Simon.

Chris played two seasons with the Islanders (2006-07 and 2007-08). He epitomized what it means to be an Islander, someone who wore his heart on his sleeve both on the ice and in the community.

Simon's passing lead to one NHL agent calling out the NHL for turning a blind eye to the effects of fighting on player's health.

NHL Agent Calls Out Gary Bettman For Ignoring Negative Effects Of Fighting

Allan Walsh has been the most outspoken player agent in the NHL for some time now. Simon's passing inspired him to make another post about fighting in the league. Walsh has been a staunch critic of fighting as the long-term health impacts on the players are not worth the short-term entertainment fans get.

I'm angry and devastated at such a senseless tragedy. 101 fighting majors and Gary Bettman still denies the cumulative effects of repetitive head impacts. There is retired NHL players blood on Gary's hands. My condolences and sympathies to Chris' family and friends.
