Toronto Maple Leafs reporter Nick Barden was at the game watching the Leafs and Habs top prospects duke it out today. He was quick to report the injury to Minten, noting that he was not on the ice for the PK on what would have been his next shift. He also provided a video of the play where we can see Reinbacher shove the Leafs forward into the boards. It did not look particularly malicious, but plays along the boards always have a potential to be extra dangerous.
Fellow Leafs reporter Eric Engels gave us another update on Minten's status later in the game. When both teams returned for the third period, the 2022 2nd round pick did not return to the bench.
Once again, Barden came in clutch with another update during the 3rd period. He revealed that the Leafs were holding Minten out for the rest of the game, but it is for precautionary reasons only. As such, Leafs fans can breath a sigh of relief.
Minten took a big step forward two seasons ago, scoring 67 points in 57 games the year after the Leafs took him in the second round. However, last season he appeared to stall out in terms of his development as he recorded just 38 points in 36 games, a slight drop in his scoring pace. Typically, this is not a good sign for prospects. However, he did add 14 points in 16 playoff games including 8 goals. This was a big step up from his previous trip to the playoffs where he recorded just 4 points in 10 games. He will likely spend this upcoming season with the Toronto Marlies, but if he impresses, he could earn his first career NHL call up.
