700-game beloved undersized NHLer retires after storied career

Tyler Ennis came into the NHL with plenty of doubters, but after a storied career, he retires as a very respected veteran in the game of hockey.

Way back in 2008, the Buffalo Sabres took a chance on Tyler Ennis in the first round, drafting him at No. 28 overall despite being just 5-foot-9, and they wouldn't regret that move, as he would go on to play eight seasons with the team and become a beloved figure in the city. Now in 2024, he has officially announced his retirement on social media after playing overseas in recent times.

While Ennis hadn't played in the NHL for the past two years, instead competing overseas, his NHL career was nothing to scoff at, as the 34-year old played in 700 games with Buffalo, Minnesota, Toronto, Ottawa and Edmonton. With his career over, he officially retires with 144 goals and 346 points at the NHL level, showing that even with a lack of size, if you have the commitment and the drive along with skill, you can make it in the NHL.

A native of Edmonton, Alberta, Ennis will go down as one of the more respected players of this generation, and while he wasn't able to go on and win a Stanley Cup during his time in the league, he has no doubt left his mark, and will likely have a job in hockey waiting for him now that he has officially hung up the skates.
