Edmonton Oilers unexpectedly sign former 35-goal scorer to contract ahead of 2024-25 NHL season
It was announced today that the Edmonton Oilers have signed former 35-goal scorer Mike Hoffman to a PTO.
Mike Hoffman is coming off a stint with the San Jose Sharks after being traded by the Montreal Canadiens in the three-way Erik Karlsson trade with the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Hoffman initially signed a three year deal worth $4.5 million annually with the Montreal Canadiens under general manager Marc Bergevin, but was never able to return to his form when he scored over 35 goals with the Ottawa Senators.
However, with the skilled forwards on the Edmonton Oilers, Hoffman could flash again what made him such a highly paid player in 2021.

The Edmonton Oilers have signed forward Mike Hoffman to a professional tryout (PTO).
The veteran of 745 career NHL regular season games plus 33 appearances in the Stanley Cup Playoffs will attend Oilers training camp on a tryout basis after spending the 2023-24 campaign with the San Jose Sharks, scoring 10 goals and 13 assists in 66 games.
The 34-year-old from Kitchener, Ont. has tallied 228 goals and 259 assists in his regular season career, as well as 11 goals and nine assists in the playoffs.
Hoffman was selected in the fifth round (130th overall) at the 2009 NHL Draft and has recorded the 11th-most career points from his draft class.
