He played 938 regular season games in the NHL, as well as another 113 in the playoffs. Now, defenceman Anton Stralman has announced his retirement from the sport of hockey and has an entirely different career already lined up.
After leaving the NHL in 2023, Anton Stralman played with HV71 of the Swedish Hockey League last season. He had been completely quiet on his future in hockey since last season ended, until now. Stralman has taken a coaching role with Skultorps IF of the women's division 1 series in Sweden.
Anton Stralman played for a number of teams during his NHL career, including the Toronto Maple Leafs, Columbus Blue Jackets, New York Rangers, Tampa Bay Lightning, Florida Panthers, Arizona Coyotes, and Boston Bruins. He won a gold medal with Sweden at the 2017 World Hockey Championship, and was named Sweden's hockey rookie of the year in 2006. The longevity of his career alone should make him a great candidate to help other athletes prepare for their upcoming seasons.
Anton Stralman's last contract in the NHL was with the Boston Bruins. It was one he earned after attending Boston's training camp on a professional tryout (PTO) in 2022. Stralman said he felt betrayed by the Boston Bruins during his final year in the NHL because it seemed the team just wanted to sign him to fill in for a few weeks and then bury him in the AHL.
