Justin Schultz, a two-time Stanley Cup Champion and veteran of more than 700 regular season NHL games, has left North America to sign in Switzerland.

It appears Justin Schultz's long and successful career in the NHL has come to an end. The 34-year-old, two-time Stanley Cup Champion has left the NHL to sign with HC Lugano of the Swiss National League.

"Justin is a two-way defender. We are confident that his experience can help us in the second half of the season." - HC Lugano

Justin Schultz started the 202-25 season as a free agent after spending the last two seasons with the Seattle Kraken. They could probably use him in the lineup right now after an injury to star defenseman Vince Dunn, but it appears Schultz didn't want to sit around and wait any longer.

Initially drafted in the second round (43rd overall) by the Anaheim Ducks in the 2008 NHL entry draft, Justin Schultz began his NHL career with the Edmonton Oilers after he and the Ducks were unable to hammer out an entry-level agreement. In 2016, he want dealt to the Pittsburgh Penguins, and won two Stanley Cups with the team in that year, and the next. After that, Schultz went on to play for the Washington Capitals before signing in Seattle.

The Seattle Kraken loaded up on veterans and former Cup champs over the summer, adding Chandler Stephenson and Brandon Montour to the lineup. There were rumours that James van Riemsdyk would get a professional tryout with the team, but he ended up signing with the Columbus Blue Jackets as a free agent.
