The role of a Zamboni driver in hockey is a crucial one, but unfortunately a local driver in Quebec has now caused a disaster.

There are many roles that go into making a hockey rink a safe and special place for players of all ages, but when it comes to getting the best ice possible, there's no role more crucial than a Zamboni driver. Unfortunately in Quebec, a recent incident has gone viral of someone drunk in that role that would ultimately end up crashing the Zamboni into the boards, causing plenty of damage in the process.

The incident was caught on surveillance footage, and while it's unclear what the official was saying to the driver, it's clear there was something wrong as he swiftly crashed into the boards. There was clearly no one hurt in the process as this incident took place at a very low speed, with several witnesses there to see this terrible accident, but there was some damage done.

Authorities report that damage «to a door and to the boards» was reported, all «in the presence of several witnesses».

According to TVA Nouvelles, the driver was promptly arrested by Public Security police officers from the MRC des Collines-de-l'Outaouais, and is awaiting trial over the incident, although he has been released while awaiting this process. It's unclear why this person was allowed to operate a Zamboni, clearly under the influence, and while the official could potentially be trying to diffuse the situation, the driver wasn't going to be stopping for anyone.

Thankfully this was nowhere near as bad as it could be, but it's just a great reminder that no matter what type of vehicle you are operating under any circumstances, drinking alcohol beforehand should never happen as it can result in incidents such as this.
