The most frightening moment of the night happened early in the second period when Seattle Kraken forward Jordan Eberle was carried off the ice following a collision with Blackhawks defenseman Connor Murphy.
The two became tangled up and crashed hard into the boards, injuring Eberle to the point that he could not continue.
Murphy could skate away from the hit, while Eberle required assistance from the Kraken medical staff and Justin Rogers to leave the ice. The game was momentarily delayed as officials tended to the scene.
The incident did look pretty bad. It came just 17 seconds into the second period and left a sour taste in everyone's mouth for the rest of the game.
Kraken forward Matty Beniers found the back of the net shortly after the injury, but the mood within the arena did not seem to get too high given the thought of Eberle's well-being still being in the minds of fans and players alike, as well as Chicago Blackhawks goalie Petr Mrazek.
Eberle, named second captain in Kraken history on Oct. 8, 2024, has been a cornerstone of the franchise since being selected from the New York Islanders in the 2021 Expansion Draft.
He became captain, taking over from Mark Giordano following his departure to the Toronto Maple Leafs the season prior.
The Kraken community and hockey fans everywhere hope Eberle has a speedy recovery. His on-ice contributions to the team and his leadership on and off the ice have been major factors in molding the identity of Seattle's young franchise.
We are sending all our best to Jordan Eberle during this complex time and we hope he will not be out for too long.
