This evening reports have surfaced that the New York Rangers have decided to put yet another player on the trade block and this time it is young star Kaapo Kakko.

Over the last week, there have been reports that have confirmed the New York Rangers are in a bit of a panic mode so far this season.

After several seasons of being a consistent contender in the Eastern Conference, a lackluster start to this season has led to panic in the New York Rangers organization.

Earlier this week a report from TSN's Insider Trading via Chris Johnston confirmed that players like Chris Kreider and Jacob Trouba are available.

Chris Drury, the Rangers general manager is open for business, he's let that be known to other GMs around the league. Specifically he's mentioned Jacob Trouba and Chris Kreider as veteran Rangers players that he'd be willing to move on from under the right circumstances.

Chris Johnston continues and elaborates that despite success in the standings there has been an overall frustration from the front office of the Rangers after a recent skid.

The mere fact that they're publicly known to be available amongst other Rangers players tells you a little bit about the situation in New York, which might surprise some people. If you look at the standings, the Rangers are holding down a playoff spot at this point but there's been a general displeasure with the displeasure with the performance of some of the veteran players on the Rangers this season. They've dropped three games in a row and management is now considering other options to try to shake things up

Today these reports were taken to an even more aggressive level when insider Darren Dreger suggested that the Rangers are not only considering trading veterans but young players as well.

According to Darren Dreger's sources, former second-overall pick Kaapo Kakko's name has come back up in trade talks in recent weeks.

Kaapo Kakko's name has resurfaced in trade talks. If they're trading out pieces like that, then the return is going to have to be exactly what the Rangers are looking for.

This season Kaapo Kakko has had a bit of a resurgence with 12 points in 21 games after tallying just 19 points in all of 2023-24.

Of course, this is still disappointing for a former second-overall pick like Kaapo Kakko and the Rangers led by Chris Drury might just be ready to cut their losses and move on.

As the season marches on it will be interesting to follow the New York Rangers and see if they make any major trades or if they stay the course and hope their current group finds success again.
