Elliotte Friedman Links Montreal Canadiens Top-Five Pick to a Metro Team in Unexpected Trade Rumour
The Montreal Canadiens will be involved in many trade rumours this season, and now a top insider has shockingly linked Kirby Dach to a surprise move.
After making several moves already this season, the Pittsburgh Penguins may be the most interesting and active team in the NHL in 2024/25 in terms of player movement and trades.
With the team struggling to find success around Sidney Crosby, it appears they could be looking to add young, NHL ready players to grow alongside their captain, with the team already linked to the likes of David Jiricek.
The Penguins have continued their struggles even after the move of Lars Eller and the acquisition of Philip Tomasino, and with the team caught between a full-on rebuild and going further into veteran talent around Sidney Crosby, Kyle Dubas is stuck in a tough spot.
Now, Elliotte Friedman has made a surprising statement, naming Kirby Dach as a player to watch for Pittsburgh as a potential trade target.
Given Pittsburgh's situation, targeting a 23-year old who has already posted a career high of 38 in the NHL would be a perfect situation, but given Montreal's current situation, it's tough to see why they would move him.
However, Montreal too have struggled this year, and with the exception of Cole Caufield, David Reinbacher, Nick Suzuki, Lane Hutson, Juraj Slafkovsky and Ivan Demidov, it's safe to say that they could be looking to shake things up by moving a key piece.
Ultimately though, it's unlikely that Montreal will look to move Dach this season, but if someone as respected and connected as Friedman is throwing his name out there, it must mean something.
