With the recent absence of J.T. Miller, even more questions have been asked about the frustration in the Vancouver Canucks locker room, especially when Elliotte Friedman hinted that it could have been something involving teammate Elias Pettersson that forced him to take leave.
While that's just speculation, it's become clear that the Canucks themselves have been frustrated with Pettersson's play this season, and on the latest episode of the 32 Thoughts podcast, Friedman had a blockbuster idea for a trade proposal.
This indeed would be one of the biggest trades we've seen in recent NHL memory, with the Sabres landing a huge star to hopefully propel them out of the rebuild, while Vancouver get not one but two bright young stars that could give them more depth as they look to push for a Stanley Cup.
After inking an eight-year extension, the thought of trading Pettersson no doubt would have been a ridiculous one in Vancouver since signing that deal, but with all of the speculation around he and Miller, a trade could now become a possibility.
Despite a slow start, the 26-year old now has 8 goals and 26 points in 29 games played this season, and if the deal went through the combination of he and Tage Thompson would make this one of the best 1-2 punches down the middle in the entire NHL.
Ultimately, this one has very little likelihood of going through however, but with everything happening behind the scenes in Vancouver recently, the idea of trading 'Petey' isn't as ridiculous as it once was.
