Top NHL Agent Leaks Gary Bettman's Shocking Salary Cap Plan for Next Season
The NHL's salary cap has slowly been growing over the past few years, and now, Agent Allan Walsh has revealed a huge jump will be taken before next season.
While viewership may not be at an all-time high for the NHL, the business of the league is seemingly doing very well overall, with the NHL's salary cap slowly rising over the years on top of the addition of several new franchises at a very high fee.
Recently, a report from Elliotte Friedman predicted a major jump in the salary cap, that is before NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman shut it down, stating he had no idea where that report came from.
Now, we've seen another prominent figure in the NHL make the exact same prediction, with agent Allan Walsh revealing he believes the cap will jump from $88 million to $97 million, revealing his thoughts on the Steve Dangle podcast.
As mentioned by Walsh, this would represent the highest jump in the history of the NHL for the salary cap, and with some teams struggling to find cap space at the moment, an additional $9 million would be a godsend.
We've seen Bettman shoot down this same report before however, so it's unclear where Walsh is getting his numbers from, but as one of the most well-connected people in hockey, it's hard to doubt Walsh's prediction.
If this does indeed happen, we likely won't know about it officially until the off-season when free agency is looming, and with players like John Tavares, Marco Rossi, Mitch Marner, Mikko Rantanen and others set to hit free agency, they'll be delighted to see teams having much more money to play with.
