After signing a one-year extension with the Minnesota Wild last summer, he confirmed the 2024-25 season would be his last:
While the 1007-game veteran's .910 save percentage through 15 games started this season made many fans believe he would choose to keep going, Fleury has now confirmed he is sticking to his plan.
When asked by a reporter if he was considering sticking around, he replied concretely:
The last NHL goaltender to be selected first overall, in the legendary 2003 draft, Fleury went on to win three Stanley Cups with the Pittsburgh Penguins, and a Vezina Trophy at age 37 with the Vegas Golden Knights.
With one of the all-time great track records preceding him, a hall of fame bid is likely for the Sorel, Quebec native. Undeniably one of the best of this generation.
If this is really it (some fans are still not convinced), we will be watching Fleury finish his career with 21 NHL seasons played; truly unbelievable stuff.
