Jackson Blake gave Rod Brind'Amour the winner, then the Hurricanes twisted the knife with a cheesesteak shot at Philadelphia.

That post hit because Carolina knew exactly what it was doing. Right after finishing the sweep, the Hurricanes dropped a photo of a cheesesteak with the line, «Do you want it wit or without tears?»

In Philly, that lands hard. The joke plays right off the city's most famous sandwich order, and Carolina used it to stamp the end of a series that already felt personal.

It also fit the way this matchup built. The games were tight, the tone was nasty, and the Flyers kept trying to drag the series into their kind of fight.

Instead, Carolina kept answering with wins. The Hurricanes beat Philadelphia 3-2 in overtime in Game 4 and moved on without dropping a game in the first two rounds.

That made the troll easier to sell. Social media jabs always look bolder when they come from a team sitting 8-0 in the playoffs.

And Carolina has earned that swagger. This is now a third trip to the Eastern Conference Final in four years for Brind'Amour's group, and they still have not taken a loss this spring.

Hurricanes roast Flyers fans after sweep and the reaction is exploding

That is what makes this funnier than a random team account joke. Brind'Amour and Rick Tocchet clearly shared real respect in the handshake line, and there was even that little nod toward what Tocchet brought back to the Flyers.

But respect does not stop once the series ends. Not in the playoffs, and definitely not online.

The Hurricanes knew Philly had emptied itself in that series. Dan Vladar made 37 saves in Game 4, the Flyers scratched and clawed for every inch, and Alex Bump even forced overtime.

It still was not enough. Blake buried the winner after finishing the night with 2 goals and 1 assist, and that closed the door on a Flyers run that had finally brought playoff life back to the building.

Blake, who scored the game-winning goal for the Hurricanes, gave credit to his teammates for helping create the play.

«A lot went down on that goal,» Blake said via NHL.com. «Slavo (Jaccob Slavin) makes an unbelievable play. Then Stanks (Logan Stankoven) middle-lane drives and pushes those two defensemen back. Hallsy makes a play that not a lot of people can make there. Fortunately, I got the bounce, and it went in.»

That is why the cheesesteak post landed the way it did. Carolina was not mocking a dead team in January. It was taking one last rip after surviving a loud, emotional road environment and walking out with a sweep.

And the Canes had the numbers to back the chirp. They allowed only 10 goals in 8 playoff games, while Philadelphia was held to just 5 in the series.

So yes, the post was petty. It was supposed to be. The Hurricanes respected the Flyers enough to know the shot would sting, then took it anyway.
