Mason St-Louis is suddenly in focus, and Martin St-Louis now has a family storyline that could hit close to home.

There's a real development here tied to the Canadiens head coach, and it came from Elliotte Friedman on his 32 Thoughts podcast.

Friedman revealed that Mason St-Louis, Martin's son, will be at Sherbrooke Phoenix training camp.

That immediately turned a quiet junior story into something much bigger in Quebec.

The detail landed with extra weight because Friedman said he had already spoken with the young forward after a Canadiens playoff game without realizing who he was talking to at the time.

It was only later, thanks to a podcast listener, that Friedman made the connection.

He had mentioned St-Louis and 2 other players without identifying Mason as the coach's son.

That matters because Sherbrooke made a gamble when they drafted him last year.

There was no guarantee he would ever report to the Phoenix.

A camp invite that suddenly means more for Mason St-Louis

Now, at 18, the path looks a little clearer.

Mason St-Louis could spend the 2026-2027 season in Sherbrooke before moving on to Dartmouth College the following year.

That's why this camp news is getting so much traction.

In Quebec hockey circles, a last name like St-Louis doesn't stay quiet for long.

There's also a real family angle here.

If Mason settles in Sherbrooke, he'd be a short drive from his father in Montreal, which changes the day-to-day picture in a meaningful way.

On the ice, he brings some offensive upside. Mason posted 41 points in 33 games at the high school level in Connecticut last season, which gives the Phoenix something real to work with.

Another link makes this even more interesting.

Canadiens assistant coach Stéphane Robidas has previous ties with the Phoenix, adding one more layer between the two organizations.

The choice still isn't final, and that's the part to watch.

Mason has not fully committed to the major junior route, and that leaves room for more twists.

That uncertainty stands out even more because his 2 older brothers chose the college path without going through major junior.

Mason could still follow a different road.

But if he does land in Sherbrooke, this won't just be a junior hockey note.

For Martin St-Louis, it would mean having one of his sons nearby at a time when every season behind an NHL bench comes with pressure.
