Matthew Mayich remains hospitalized in Arizona as Jim Montgomery's Blues wait for clarity on a serious prospect situation.
The Blues released a new statement Wednesday saying Mayich remains under medical treatment in Arizona and that the organization is receiving updates from his agent.
The update comes after Mayich collapsed following an outdoor workout Thursday morning. Arizona State University is reviewing the circumstances surrounding that session.
Mayich, 21, is preparing to join Arizona State for the 2026-27 season after transferring from Clarkson University. He remains a St. Louis prospect.
"Even though we are going through this heartbreak, it is truly such a blessing to see everyone praying and just the impact Matthew has had on so many people," Mayich's cousin, Victoria Beara, said. "It's in God's hand. Please don't stop praying and don't give up."
The school has not publicly identified Mayich, citing privacy interests, but confirmed that an Arizona State hockey player remained hospitalized after collapsing during an outdoor exercise.
Doug Armstrong's statement kept the focus squarely on Mayich's condition, saying the Blues are supporting his family, friends and teammates while he continues treatment.

Questions remain around the workout
Emergency crews were sent to Sun Angel Stadium at 8:31 a.m. Thursday after receiving a report involving a heat-related illness. The patient was treated and transported to a hospital.
Arizona State has not said whether the workout was organized or sanctioned by its hockey program. That unanswered question now sits at the center of the university's review.
For St. Louis, the hockey implications are secondary right now. Mayich has not signed an entry-level contract with the Blues, leaving his immediate future tied to his health and recovery.
The Blues selected the defenceman in the sixth round of the 2023 NHL Draft after his development path with the Ottawa 67's in the OHL.
Mayich then spent the 2025-26 season at Clarkson, recording 7 goals and 15 points across 34 games before announcing his move to Arizona State.
That transfer was supposed to open another important season in his development. Instead, the focus around Mayich has shifted completely toward his medical status.
The Blues' latest update offers no timetable for his release from hospital or return to hockey. For now, St. Louis is waiting for further information while Arizona State examines what happened.
