Jake DeBrusk showed up sick at Rogers Arena on Saturday, and the Vancouver Canucks will be without him tonight against Calgary.

Manny Malhotra confirmed the illness and ruled DeBrusk out, per Thomas Drance.

The team lists him as out until at least October 4, which puts Sunday's game against Vegas in question too.

He has one assist through two games and sits even on the season, so this isn't a hot hand Vancouver is losing.

The 29-year-old carries a $5,500,000 cap hit.

Losing a body to a bug is about the least dramatic way to miss a game, and that's a small relief for a team coming off a rough night defensively.

It's calling in sick on the one day the office really needed you. Nobody blames you, but somebody still has to cover the shift.

Jake DeBrusk ruled out as illness forces Canucks lineup change against Flames

The Canucks opened with a 6-5 overtime win in Edmonton before Thursday's mess.

Can they tighten up? That 9-7 loss to the Oilers says there's work to do.

Kevin Lankinen sits at a .772 save percentage through two games, while Leevi Merilainen came on in relief Thursday and posted a .909.

Elias Pettersson, Marco Rossi, Paul Cotter and Filip Hronek each have four points, with all four of Hronek's coming as assists.

Pettersson carries an $11,600,000 cap hit, and both of his goals have come on the power play.

Cotter has three goals, including a shorthanded tally and the overtime winner in the opener.

The Flames opened with a 6-1 home loss to Seattle, and Dustin Wolf finished that one at .813.

Ryan Huska's group has scored just once all season, with Ryan Strome getting that one.

Both teams play again Sunday, with Vegas visiting Vancouver and Calgary heading to Seattle.

After that, the Canucks get a few days off before heading east to Carolina on Thursday.

A bug is usually a short-term problem. With Vegas coming in less than 24 hours later, Malhotra may be juggling his lineup for two nights instead of one.
