The Boston Bruins have put Michael Eyssimont on waivers, and Patrick Giles joins him on the wire out of San Jose.

Elliotte Friedman reported both moves Sunday afternoon, adding that David Gustafsson cleared after Pittsburgh waived him Saturday.

Eyssimont is a 30-year-old center from Littleton, Colorado, who shoots left.

He brings 269 NHL games and 261 penalty minutes to the wire, plus a goal and an assist in 10 playoff games.

His best season came with Tampa Bay in 2023-24, when he put up 25 points in 81 games.

Somebody should claim him. A cheap center who plays with that kind of bite is exactly what contenders look for in October.

It's a reliable used pickup with a few dents. Nobody's framing it, but somebody always needs one for the job site.

New opportunities emerge on the waiver wire as Elliotte Friedman names Michael Eyssimont and Patrick Giles

Giles is a 26-year-old right winger from Chevy Chase, Maryland, and he stands 6-foot-5.

He has two points in 20 NHL games, split between Florida and San Jose.

Before turning pro, he played four seasons at Boston College.

Most of last season came with the San Jose Barracuda, where he put up 24 points in 67 games.

His $875,000 deal runs through 2027-28.

Back to Eyssimont: Los Angeles took him in the fifth round, 142nd overall, in 2016, and he worked his way up through the American Hockey League.

Why move on from Eyssimont now? He had 18 points in 56 games for the Bruins last season.

His $1,450,000 cap hit expires after this season, with unrestricted free agency waiting.

Marco Sturm's Bruins are 2-1-0 after a 4-1 loss in Minnesota on Saturday.

Ryan Warsofsky's Sharks are 2-0-0 after beating Los Angeles 5-4 in overtime.

Every other team passed on Gustafsson, who has 149 NHL games on his résumé.

The Penguins, for their part, are 2-0-0 after a 6-5 overtime win over Montreal on Saturday.

Waiver claims are a numbers game. Eyssimont's edge and Giles' size will get a look, but this weekend has already shown how often every team says no.
