The winless Flyers have been linked to Simon Edvinsson, and after the start they've had, Philadelphia needs a jolt more than anyone.
Elliotte Friedman connected the Flyers to the Red Wings' unsigned RFA, who reportedly prefers a trade out of Detroit.
The timing couldn't be more urgent. Philadelphia is 0-2-2, with just five goals scored and 17 allowed through four games.
The start included a 7-0 home loss to Pittsburgh that ended in boos and a 4-1 loss in Tampa on Monday. Rick Tocchet is already taking heat in his second season.
The blue line has been a big part of the problem. Cam York sits at -5, while Travis Sanheim and Jamie Drysdale are both at -4.
Edvinsson would change that picture. He's 6-foot-6, a left shot, and finished +12 in each of his last two seasons in Detroit.

One Flyers writer suggested a package starting with York, plus a high-end prospect and a protected first-round pick. That would at least get Detroit's attention.
York, 25, carries a $5,150,000 cap hit. Swapping him for a bigger, younger anchor on the left side makes sense for a team this desperate for change.
Frank Seravalli reported Detroit is open to prospects, picks or young roster players for Edvinsson. That's exactly the kind of package Philadelphia can build.
Daniel Briere should make the call. A team with no wins and a coach under fire can't sit on its hands, and a 23-year-old top-pair defenceman can change a season's direction.
It's like replacing the foundation of a house that keeps flooding. Expensive, but nothing else works until it's fixed.
The catch is the contract. Edvinsson would need a new deal right away, and David Pagnotta pegged a maximum seven-year contract between $9 million and $11 million annually.
The Flyers visit Ottawa on Thursday, still chasing their first win. If that drought keeps going, Briere's call to Detroit might come sooner than anyone expects.
