Dylan Larkin is suddenly at the center of growing trade speculation, putting Todd McLellan and the Detroit Red Wings under an uncomfortable spotlight.
NHL insider David Pagnotta has revealed that several teams outside Larkin's previously reported list of preferred destinations continue to monitor his situation. And the names involved should get Detroit's attention.
According to comments shared by NHL Rumour Report, the Montreal Canadiens, Los Angeles Kings and Boston Bruins are among the organizations keeping tabs on Detroit's captain.
Pagnotta discussed the situation during an October 8 appearance on Oilersnation Everyday, making it clear that interested teams haven't necessarily abandoned their pursuit simply because they're outside Larkin's reported list.
"David Pagnotta: Re Dylan Larkin: There are other [non-list] teams that continue to poke around; Montreal, LA, Boston, if he's willing to come here, keep us in mind; Philly has inquired...but Philly's out of the equation...as far as I know - Oilersnation Everyday (10/8)"

The Philadelphia Flyers have also made inquiries, although Pagnotta indicated they are no longer part of the equation, as far as he knows. That distinction leaves three notable clubs worth watching.
For Detroit general manager Steve Yzerman, the situation raises an uncomfortable question. How seriously should the Red Wings entertain outside interest in the player who has become the face of their organization?
Montreal's inclusion is particularly intriguing. The Canadiens are Atlantic Division rivals, and acquiring an established center like Larkin would represent a significant addition to their forward group.
Boston's reported interest carries similar implications. The Bruins know exactly what Larkin brings, having faced him regularly within the division.
Los Angeles offers a different possibility. The Kings operate outside Detroit's conference, removing the immediate concern of strengthening a direct Eastern Conference competitor.
There's another important detail. NHL insider Michael Russo has also reported that the Minnesota Wild remain motivated to pursue Larkin and believe they have an opportunity to acquire him.
That doesn't mean a trade is imminent. Checking on availability and advancing serious negotiations are very different things, particularly with a player carrying Larkin's importance to Detroit.
McLellan still has a team to coach, while Yzerman faces the responsibility of determining whether any potential return could justify moving his captain.
But with Minnesota pushing and three other notable organizations reportedly monitoring the situation, the conversation surrounding Larkin is no longer confined to a single potential destination.
Should the Detroit Red Wings seriously consider trading Dylan Larkin if multiple teams are interested?
